Scholarship Granting Organizations, SGOs, are a great way to help us serve our families by remaining affordable and accessible. Our SGO exists through the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, and is called SGONEI (The Scholarship Granting Organization of Northeast Indiana). These have been authorized by the State of Indiana, and allow donors to send scholarship dollars specifically to St. Rose. Our administration can then award SGO scholarships to individual students, following income guidelines from the State of Indiana. St. Rose is especially grateful to you, our donor, who generously supports our students. With your help and support of the SGO program, you allow St. Rose to remain affordable to all families.
When you donate to our SGO, significant tax credits are awarded, which can significantly reduce the net out-of-pocket cost of your donation. Please contact Travis Heckber, principal, for more information on these credits.
Depending on your tax bracket, a donation of $1,000 to the SGO could result in:
Donation to St. Rose SGO $1,000
50% state tax rebate (-$500)
25% federal deduction ($500 x 25% = $125)
--------------------------------------------------------------
Net cost to you $375
*Consult your tax advisor to determine your specific tax situation
The State of Indiana sets guidelines for how many dollars in total throughout the State may be donated this way, given the tax reductions available. In recent years, the Indiana State total has been about $18,500,000. However, this amount can be reached very quickly within the fiscal year, and once the State finds this total is met, no further donations can be made in that fiscal year. In some years, this limit is reached within just a few months, so we encourage potential donors to take quick action when this window is open.
SGO scholarships are a significant blessing to our school families, which ensures our school remains affordable and accessible to everyone. May God bless you and our families who benefit from your incredible generosity!
